the state of the newspaper

I work for the second largest Newspaper in the state of Arizona. I love this paper and I adore my job here. Unfortunately, this week there were 142 employees affected by a company-wide lay off. That represented 40% of our staff and was the third lay off in 2008. The strangest part is that because of the large number of employees let go, by law the company had to give them 60 days notice. That means that almost half of our staff are continuing to come to work, watching the clock, waiting for that day when their severance kicks in. How can they be expected to do a good job? What do the half the people that are staying say to the half that were on the hit list? Which group are the lucky ones?!?! Not to mention bitter attitudes of certain employees that have been here for 10, 20, 30+ years? Sabotage, revenge, retribution are all very real possibilities. Such a strange environment to be in. So many mixed feelings floating in the air. Thank God, my Mom, my Sister, my family, and all of my incredible friends for helping me always maintain such a positive, grateful, and abundant attitude. Through this perspective I know that everything will be just fine and I love each step of the adventure!!!
